At Girl Scout Camp it is! Ellen came by this morning and made the cutest bags…. out of bags! Using an iron, the girls were able to melt together layers of old grocery bags to make a fabric. Then, they cut out their pattern and used the sewing machines to make the bags. They are SO cute. and sustainable. Let’s hear it for GREEN Girl Scouts!

We are busy here at Camp this week! We’ve already made aprons, reusable market bags, duct tape purses and we are starting on some super cool hats! There’s lots to do and lots of fun to be had with all these Future Fashionistas!

Beaver’s Band Box Invades Girl Scout Camp!

Toby and Jessica from Beaver’s Band Box were awesome enough to stop by Day Camp today and teach the girls about different kinds of instruments! The girls got to experiment on percussion, woodwind and string instruments and they had a blast! Afterwards, Toby gave us a special performance on his guitar and totally rocked the house (even though he didn’t know any Hannah Montana)! THANK YOU Beaver’s Band Box for coming and putting on such an amazing program for the girls! Check out some highlights:

Beaver’s Band Box is coming to Girl Scout Camp! Thursday, the girls will get to experiment with a variety of brass, woodwind, string and percussion instruments! In the meantime, check out Beaver’s Band Box for all your instrument, rental, repair, and music lesson needs!

24 of them in fact. The creativity was definitely flowing at camp today! We started out the day with some improv exercises and then they buckled down to do some characters analysis exercises for their performance on Friday. One of the groups is writing a mystery that sees one of our PA’s kidnapped by a giant bubble! The other group is creating a musical number about time travel!! You won’t want to miss the performances on Friday, but if you do- of course I’ll have video up! Cat also came out and made some super duper cute hair accessories! Here’s some pictures from today:

We all know that songs are a big part of Summer Camp. They’re fun, they keep the energy flowing and well… its just cool to be silly! Here are a few of the favorites from this Summer performed by 2 of our PA’s, Olive and Pinky, with the help of the Blue and Yellow groups! Woo! You should have been here for this boat race! It was just about the coolest thing I have ever seen… and if not the coolest definitely one of the funniest! On Tuesday, the girls designed and constructed boats made of cardboard and duct tape. Today, they got to race them across the swimming pool! The boats were judged in 5 categories: Most Creative Design, Best Name, Fastest (race winner), Most Sturdy, and First to Sink! Check out the awesomeness:

We LOVE our PA’s

We’ve had 41 different Program Aides (PA) helping us at Camp this Summer. Without all their hard work and help, Camp certainly would not have been as fun! The girls love them, the counselors love them and I love them! I hope you aren’t tired of hearing from me yet, but here is camp from a different perspective- the PA perspective!

“My camp experience was good. I had fun and learned lots of things. I learned that little kids adore almost everyone. I also learned that being a PA isn’t always fun, but it’s rewarding.” ~Starburst, 8th grade

“My camp experience was great! The girls were really fun to work with. The PA’s and Counselors that I worked with showed great kindness to me. In conclusion my week at Girl Scout camp (monsoon madness) was awesome.” ~Crush, 6th grade

“Being a PA is the best thing you can do. Being with the kids is so fun and Super Kristi is awesome. The camps are great and the counselors are super fun.” ~Angel, 7th grade

“My experience at the Hacienda has been a blast. This is my first year being a Program Aide so I was a little nervous at first but I am having so much fun. We have gone on so many field trips like Breakers Water Park and Pump It Up. When I was little I was a camper here and it was my dream to be a PA and now I am.” ~Kit Kat, 7th grade

“I had a lot of fun at camp this year, we sing a lot of fun camp songs, do lots of fun projects, and take amazing field trips like Breakers Water Park, Pump It Up, and Rock Climbing. Program Aides get to choose a camp name they like, so it is more interesting for the kids. We had so much fun at camp doing fun and cool projects with the kids. The kids are amazing and you learn a lot of fun stuff from the kids (Program Aides fall in love with the kids) and I guarantee you will have a butt load of fun. We sure did.” ~Pooh Bear (Brook), 8th grade

“My camp experience has been very fun and a little hard. Taking care of little kids is hard but at the same time it makes you feel good, like a good role model. I would suggest being a PA because you really get to have fun with the kids. This has been a PA camp experience.” ~Jelly Bean, 7th grade

We Found Water in Tucson!

It wasn’t hard to find really… You just get on the highway and drive until you see a bunch of water slides! Those dark cumulus clouds were making me worry a bit on the drive to Breakers but it turned out ok. We had a few sprinkles here and there throughout the day but no thunder and no lightning. That meant more slides and more time in the wave pool! Everyone had a super great time and I think I’m the only one that got a sunburn so that’s awesome! I wasn’t able to take very many pictures… camera and phone in the wave pool = not such a great idea, but I was able to snap a few from dry ground.
